The Gala Coral Group is committed to creating a culture of excellence throughout the organisation. Over £1 million a year is invested in training and development. Some examples of this are Gala Casinos’ 'Difference Programme', and Gala Coral Group’s 'Valuing Our People' programme which have made the Group a leading employer in the gaming sector.

Learning Centres

Gala Coral has four learning centres across the UK to ensure we continue to select, develop and retain the best people.

Courses run include Management Development, IT Training including the accredited European Computer Driving Licence, Customer Service, Trainer Training, Health and Safety and Food and Beverage Training.

There is also an excellent virtual learning centre available, which can be accessed on the company intranet. Features include:

  •  Downloadable unit based training packages for on-site trainers
  •  Hints and tips for both learners and trainers
  •   Details of the Further Education Opportunities (FEO) available

Further Education Opportunities

Opportunities for further education are encouraged. Non management staff can apply for a Learning Voucher - up to a maximum value of £200.

The Gala Coral Group also makes 12 annual scholarships available for those wishing to pursue further academic development. The Gala Coral scholarships will provide funding for diplomas, degrees and MBAs
For general managers there are up to 40 Academic Sponsorships per year, including the post-graduate diploma in 'Certificate in Gambling and Leisure Management (CIM)', as well as the Diploma in Management Studies for those who have undertaken and passed the CIM.

Management Development

Management development is pursued via comprehensive training programmes, academic study, bespoke courses on the Learning Directory, on the job training and one-to-one coaching.

With the progress of deregulation continuing, Gala Coral encourages cross-functional training designed to multi-skill its top managers. This will help give the company a pool of senior managers equipped to manage multi-product gaming outlets.

Other Training Initiatives in Progress

Gala Coral Group is currently working with GamCare (a charitable trust working with problem gamblers) on the continued development of a bespoke training programmes. Gala Coral is committed to operating as an ethical and responsible gaming company. It will achieve this through formal training, clear procedures and a formalised Code of Gambling and Social Responsibility.
